In 1912 brothers Bill, Fred and Charlie Klein established logging and sawmill operations in the area now known as Kleindale. Huge timbers that formed the first, landmark Lumberman's Arch in Vancouver's Stanley Park were supplied by the Klein family.
No one is sure where Kleindale begins and ends, but it's considered to be the area along Hwy. 101 from the foot of Misery Mile to the high school, and down Garden Bay Rd. to Percival's Farm of Black Angus cattle.
Kleindale is infamous for its extreme (from a Pender Harbour perspective) weather, and for llamas, goats on Garden Bay Road and the largest local population of coyotes.
Although mostly residential, this central area includes several small agricultural and light industrial zones, and is designated in our Official Community Plan for new commercial and industrial development.
Artists' studios are juxtaposed with small industrial/commercial businesses including a gravel pit, nursery and organic produce farm. Kleindale has the community's only gas station and it is the earthly location of this website.
