The largest electoral area of the Sunshine Coast at 1,950.3 hectares, Area A (Pender Harbour, Egmont and area) has only 10% of its population, although that swells considerably in summer —not including the transient tourist population— with non-resident property owners.
The 2006 census reports that Area A (Pender Harbour and Egmont) has 2,624 full-time residents and an estimated 1,700 part-time residents (852 homes belong to absentee property owners).
Our annual growth rate is 10.5%, and our population is expected to hit 5,000 by 2010. The population of the Sunshine Coast is expected to increase by 18% by 2017.
Pender Harbour is home to nearly 40% of the 55+ age group of the Sunshine Coast. The 2001 census revealed that, on the Sunshine Coast, 90% of residents are English-speaking and 44% report no religion.
