Our MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) representative at the British Columbia Provincial Government level is Nicholas Simons, who was elected in 2005, running for the New Democratic Party.
He represents the electoral area of Powell River-Sunshine Coast and serves as Opposition Critic for Human Rights, Multiculturalism and Immigration.
Previously employed by the Sechelt Indian Band, Simons spent over 15 years working in the areas of health, justice, social services and child welfare. He worked as a child-protection social worker and consultant in law reform, child welfare, legal education and crime prevention. He lectured in Criminology and taught child-protection social work for aboriginal communities. He is a cello teacher and performer, former-President of the Sunshine Coast Arts Council and former Sechelt Minor Softball coach. Simons lives with his partner in Sechelt.

Our current and 34th Premier or leader of the provincial government is the Honourable Gordon Campbell of the BC Liberal Party, who was elected for his second term in 2005 after serving since 2001, when he was elected with the largest majority in BC history.
Mr. Campbell served three terms as mayor of Vancouver, from 1986 to 1993.
He and his wife of 34 years, Nancy (principal of Howe Sound Secondary in Squamish), have two adult sons, Geoffrey and Nicholas. They own recreational property near Pender Harbour.
Mr. Campbell has a BA (English) from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and an MBA from Simon Fraser University.
