Bob Donnely donated land for the area's first school in 1915, and children traveled to "the Donnely Landing School" on Francis Peninsula by boat, and in ten years the area had five one-room schools. “Portuguese Joe” Gonsalves donated land for Madeira Park Elementary School, the playground, teacherage and adjacent Community Hall.

Pender Harbour Secondary, celebrating its 100th birthday in 2008, was once the smallest, fully accredited school in British Columbia. The late Frances Fleming, then principal, is credited with this accomplishment, and with the school’s record of having the best Provincial Grade 12 exam results. Fleming went on to be recognized with the Order of BC after being both the first woman administrator of a large secondary school and the first woman Superintendent of Schools in the province. (Thanks to School Board Chair, Silas White, for this interesting Pender Harbour education history tidbit).

Adults in Pender Harbour enjoy a variety of recreational courses offered by local organizations, and some university-transfer courses are available nearby in Sechelt.
