This nine-hole golf tournament in honour of Pender Harbour Golf Club founder Catherine McQuitty is open to all non-professional players. The format ensures that the best player isn't necessarily on the winning team and the day ends with a banquet and awards ceremony. Sign up at the golf club or the Pender Harbour Legion. $30.

Gunboat Bay Regatta

The small but spirited Gunboat Bay Yacht Club holds this not-too-serious regatta every July for sailboats no more than 20 feet in length. They welcome all friends, families and fans of participants to enjoy the pre-race marine parade at 2:30 p.m. and the club’s annual potluck barbecue and awards ceremony following the race (which starts right after a brief skippers' meeting at 3:30).

Malaspina Regatta

Since 1990, the Garden Bay Sailing Club hosts this, the biggest regatta of the area, every Canada Day weekend. All classes and sizes of sailboats compete for trophies, and a handicap system ensures that the biggest boat doesn't necessarily win. The day starts with a skippers' breakfast and ends with an awards ceremony and barbecue.
