2008 Program
The event is in beautiful, downtown Garden Bay, on the grounds of Garden Bay Hotel and a manicured private estate next door. Admission is free. By noon, all entrants have their gorgeous vehicles displayed for judging, which is done by you, the spectator. Here’s what the day holds in store for you:
-
Pick up your ballot when you enter the grounds. You’ll be voting for entries in six categories by age (age of vehicle, not owner) plus Best of Show.
- Fill out and submit your Prize Draw entry (you’ll get this with your ballot— our thank-you for your help in making this event a success). We’ll hold random draws all day for prizes donated by local businesses.
- Kids, enter the Remote Control Racing competition! You can bring your own vehicle or borrow one of ours, and there’s no entry fee. The emphasis on these races is fun, but you could win a prize too.
-
Enjoy live music, on the grounds and inside the pub, by Canadian recording artist Joe Stanton.
- Talk to the car and truck owners. They’re proud of their vehicles and will be happy to tell you about them. This kind of information will help you decide which gorgeous vehicle to vote for.
- Browse local art and crafts at our vendors’ booths to view and maybe buy some great representation from talented artists and artisans from Pender Harbour, Egmont and beyond.
-
Take the little kids for a Texada Island Hillbuggy rod ride with Skinny Jimmy Dougan. These remarkable hillbuggies are entirely hand-built, carved from solid wood and lovingly finished with exceptional attention to detail. Skinny Jimmy is a locally well-known country-and-western music artist, and a bit of an eccentric, but today he’ll focus on entertaining the kids. Thanks, Jim!
- You’ll probably get hungry through the day, so take a lunch break at the Rotary Club of Pender Harbour barbecue. Find a shady spot on the lawn and enjoy.
- Pick up a souvenir Pender Harbour Show & Shine t-shirt, designed by Myrtle Winchester of the Pender Harbour Paper Mill. If you’re a collector, there will be a few from previous years available.
- By 4 pm, all the ballots are counted and the winners are announced.
- By 5 pm, the show vehicles must leave the grounds, but you don’t have to. Drop in at Garden Bay Pub or Garden Bay Restaurant —both have outdoor, waterfront decks— for a bite to eat and a cool drink... it’s going to be a warm, sunny day... we promise! Please note that you must be 19 or over to enter the pub. There’s music all day, and you may choose to stick around for dancing in the evening.
The rest of the weekend? Don’t miss the 14th annual Festival of the Rolling Arts, including the Sleepy Hollow Rod Run, car show and drag races, presented by Coasters Car Club.

Entrants’ Information
Display your baby along with the competition on a spacious private estate next to Garden Bay Hotel in Pender Harbour (yes, Garden Bay). You won’t be crowded and you’ll be on a manicured lawn, so you can settle in with sunbrellas and lawn chairs for a friendly and laid-back afternoon of cars, music, admiring spectators and fellow car buffs.
Your $25 entry registration includes a complimentary lunch at Garden Bay Pub, and all proceeds go to the Egmont Volunteer Fire Dept. You’ll compete for trophies and prizes in the following categories, judged by spectator’s choice: 1932 and older, 1933-39, 1940-49, 1959-59, 1960-69, 1970 and newer and Best of Show (Best of Show can be a winner in its age category too).
Trophy and prize winners are announced at 4 pm.
Vehicles must be removed from the display area by 5 pm.
